Abstract

This study aims to explore the impact of digital transformation on employee engagement and identify strategies that organizations can implement to enhance engagement in the digital age. A qualitative research design was employed, involving semi-structured interviews with 29 participants from diverse industries. Participants were selected through purposive sampling, ensuring a mix of professional roles and experiences in digital environments. Data collection occurred online, and interviews were transcribed and analyzed using NVivo software. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify key themes related to the effects of digital transformation on employee engagement, as well as strategies for fostering engagement in digitally evolving workplaces. The findings revealed three primary themes: (1) Digital Transformation Impact, including enhanced communication, increased work flexibility, technological challenges, redefined leadership, and employee autonomy; (2) Strategies for Engagement, such as personalization of work, fostering collaboration, recognition and rewards, building trust, promoting continuous learning, health and well-being support, and feedback mechanisms; and (3) Employee Perceptions and Experiences, focusing on engagement drivers, barriers, cultural adaptation, and emotional responses. Participants highlighted both positive and negative aspects of digital transformation, with flexibility and communication tools being key drivers of engagement, while technostress and work-life balance challenges presented barriers. Digital transformation presents both opportunities and challenges for employee engagement. While technologies can enhance communication, autonomy, and flexibility, they also introduce challenges such as digital fatigue and the blurring of work-life boundaries. Organizations must develop strategies to address these challenges, including promoting digital literacy, fostering a supportive leadership culture, and implementing work-life balance policies to maintain high levels of employee engagement in the digital era.
